Alas! A Visitor: The Reach(AdriftHostile)Visitor: Albion(AdriftHostile)Visitor: Eleutheria(AdriftHostile)Visitor: The Blue Kingdom(AdriftHostile) intercepted your signal and closes in, looking for easy prey.

Paranoia
You quench your engine's lights, in the hope that you'll look like an old wreck; long dead. Unfortunately, the predatory vessel is cautious. Paranoid, even. Halting at a safe distance, they pepper your locomotive with cannon-fire. Your bridge cracks under the bombardment. The wind reaches in, and plucks you out into the vast, swallowing mouth of the sky.
Successful event
Into the breach!
You quench your lights and order the crew away from the windows. Your predator mistakes your engine for a wreck. They draw alongside... and you spring your trap! Wrenching open the hatch, you fling out grapples, lashing their engine to yours. Springing forth, you lead a desperate boarding action to plunder their fuel-stores! You return to your locomotive with two precious barrels of fuel and fewer crew than accompanied you. Cutting the grapples, you feed your engines and thunder away. Your foe limps in the opposite direction. Perhaps they'll be more careful in their choice of carrion in future.
Partial success event (5%)
A hard-won battle
You douse your lamps. Dark, rimed with frost, your engine looks like any other wreck that succumbed to the skies. Your predator closes in, dragging its lights across your hull. You and a hand-picked boarding party wait, shivering, at an exterior hatch. The other engine draws alongside. You burst forth, fling your grapples, and leap across the dizzying sky to board it. Prying open a hatch, you find yourselves subjected to a barrage of withering fire. Despite heavy casualties, you manage to retrieve two barrels of fuel. You flee to your locomotive, feed the engines, and thunder away.
Repel them
Try to drive them away. Hopefully, if you're successful, you may have time to try another plan.

Game note: You will suffer Hull damage, succeed or fail. If you fail, you will die. If you succeed, your enemy will retreat. But will it buy you the time you need?

Destroyed
You have only pistols and rifles to set against the belching cannons and armoured bulk of the approaching engine. You put up a good show, but the enemy's plating shrugs off your bullets. In response, it fires into your locomotive, rupturing the cylinder. It fires again, and a denotation consumes the crew cabins. It fires again. The bridge crumples.
Successful event
A brief victory
Seizing weapons, your crew race to hatches and windows. Leaning out into the moaning wind, they pepper the approaching engine with small-arms fire. Well-aimed shots shatter the headlights, puncture the main cylinder, crack the bridge windows. Unprepared for such resistance, the locomotive turns and flees. But your crew's cheers soon fade. The cold continues to creep through your engine. Now what?
Partial success event (5%)
A temporary reprieve
As the predatory vessel approaches, you and your crew fire barrage after barrage of small-arms fire into its windows, its pipework, its main cylinder. It returns fire with salvos from its main guns. They batter your hull. Breaches shred your crew. After several more exchanges, the enemy vessel withdraws. You weren't going to win, but you made plundering you more trouble than it was worth. As the heat of gunfire fades, the cold bites again.
Surrender, and let them take what they want
You will be spared, but impoverished and still adrift.

Game note: You will lose half your Sovereigns and all but one of your Supplies.

Picked clean
They are not merciful. You hide as much of your wealth as you can, but they take every coin, promissory note, brooch and cuff-link they can find, and plunder your stores of all but crumbs. Then they depart, leaving you to the moaning winds.
Advanced alteration value probably needs examination.
