Actions Requirements Effects Notes
Submit your organs
You've managed to provide enough material for an audit. They're sitting in wet, neatly-labelled paper bags on a nearby shelf.
A week of emptiness
It's a long, unpleasant week, confined to the Ombudsman's office, draped uselessly across a bed. Utterly hollow. Your blood has settled uncomfortably below the knees.

Finally, a knock at the door. Your organs are returned, alongside the results of the audit – you are, indeed, alive. An official inquiry will take place to discover the source of the error.

"I'll get you on the slab once I'm sure you're all present and correct," says the Ombudsman, rifling through the damp little parcels. "Sometimes things get lost in transit. Ah. I assume you never had an appendix?"
Steel your nerves
The Ombudsman begins tying leather straps around your ankles and wrists, humming tunelessly.

Game note: Pass or fail, you'll prove you're alive. But the consequences may vary.

Failed event
Torment beyond imagining
The Ombudsman is kind enough to give you a nip of whiskey and a cord to bite down on. Of course there's no anaesthetic. The pain is an important part of proving you're alive.

Ignore the pain. Ignore the pain. Ignore the...

The pain makes itself known. It will not be ignored. It will spread through your body like molten iron and turn you into its thrashing, shrieking vessel.
Successful event
Proof of life
The Ombudsman is kind enough to give you a nip of whiskey and a cord to bite down on. Of course there's no anaesthetic. The pain is an important part of proving you're alive. With a great deal of effort, you manage to will yourself elsewhere. It is still agony, but it seems to come from a very distant place.

What would you do without them?
An endorsement
And if you don't have a Litigator?
The Ombudsman shakes his head. "Your application will take years to process. Unless you, ah, grease the wheels."
A tithe of gems
"I'll see these find their way into the right hands," says the Ombudsman, counting the gemstones carefully.
On second thoughts...
The Ombudsman is right. People shouldn't come back from the dead.
