Etymology[]

As with all the London-designed engines, the Agravain is named after a figure from the Arthurian tales. "Hard-handed" Sir Agravain is a Knight of the Round Table and brother to Gawain and Gareth; while powerful and talented, he is also known for being proud, arrogant, pitiless, and loveless, serving both as a cautionary tale and an exemplar of how heroic deeds can come from flawed men. All of the stories in which Agravain appears in involve fighting, often with fellow knights, and in the original Vulgate Cycle he eventually meets his unjust death at the hands of Sir Lancelot.

Overview[]

Let us assume that you are a well-seasoned skyfare by now. You have the experience to know your way around and the confidence to handle even more challenging situations. You know the Reach and Albion like the inside of your own locomotive, but now you wish to set course toward the more dangerous regions of the High Wilderness; Eleutheria and the Blue Kingdom. These areas are very dangerous for unfamiliar skyfarers and you would be well advised to play it safe, for a thousand deaths await in the skies for those ill-prepared. As such, most of the locomotives available at New Winchester and London are not going to cut it, as they lack the Hull and Firepower to keep you safe as you venture out into the unknown. But there is an exception, a locomotive durable and powerful enough to see you through your first ventures into Eleutheria and the Blue Kingdom; the Agravain-Class Juggernaut, the most durable and powerful locomotive available in either the Reach or Albion.

The Agravain-Class Juggernaut is a locomotive built for handling dangerous situations; for safely travelling through unknown and dangerous regions of the High Wilderness and carrying cargo and passengers safely under heavy armor and for administering an appropriate thrashing upon anyone or anything that might wish harm upon you and your crew and passengers. Equipped with a Bridge slot, two Plating slots and two Auxiliary slots, the Agravain has both capacity and resilience, and it also comes equipped with one Small Weapon Slot and one Large Weapon slot, giving a good degre of firepower. On top of that, it boasts decent Hold and Quarters, at 15 and 12, respectively, which is comparable to the Pellinore-Class Trader. In fact, the Agravain could actually be considered to a more armored, heavy-duty version of that locomotive.

As an example, when its Plating and Auxiliary slots are filled and equipped for Hull and Hold, respectively, then the Agravain could gain 20-66 additional Hull and 10-30 additional Hold, depending on modules installed, allowing it to have up to 156 Hull and 45 Hold, which is very respectable and nothing to scoff at. The Bridge Slot can also be used to add in 4-10 extra Quarters, for up to 27 Quarters, and all of these values can also be balanced around in favour of one another with different modules. The Agravain also comes well-equipped in terms of armament; its slot layout of one Large Weapon and one Small Weapon makes it very versatile, allowing it to use weapons from both categories and pack enough firepower to take on most kinds of threats without too much hassle. It excels at shooting first and asking questions later, while keeping its precious cargo and passengers safe.

All in all, this makes the Agravain-Class Juggernaut a very good "armored secure transport" locomotive, one that can both carry a good amount of crew and cargo and also inflict heavy damage and withstand incoming damage, thus protecting and ensuring the wellbeing of you, your crew, your passengers and your cargo while in transit.

Should you, however, need to ratchet up your armor and firepower even further, though, then the Medea-Class Destroyer becomes the ideal candidate, being an even more extreme version of the Agravain-Class Juggernaut that sacrifices its Hold and Quarters capacity for the maximum possible Hull and Armament possible. It greatly surpasses the Agravain in terms of firepower and armor, but is very inferior it terms of carrying capacity (Hold and Quarters).
