Obtaining[]

Start by going to The Most Serene Mausoleum and there visit the Deathless. You will need to obtain 1 Favour Bestowed then look for the Dismal Chamberlain.

You will not be able to follow this Ambition with your current captain, only successor captains in the same lineage.[1]

  • [1] Collect your inheritance from your predecessor at one of three major ports (New Winchester, London or Pan)
  • [2] Collect 5 Sky-Stories in order to decipher the Chamberlain's Journal. You will study it automatically while you explore
  • [3] Search for the Unseen Queen in the world beneath London
  • [4] Travel to the Brabazon Workworld and claim the Dismal Chamberlain's sword as your own
  • [5] Return to the Unseen Queen and present her with the Minute to Midnight
  • [6] Prove yourself worthy of finding the Cup
  • [7] Meet the Grey Conformer in Piranesi and ask her for the true location of the Cup
  • [8] The Grey Conformer wishes to receive either a Captivating Treasure or 5 Casks of Navaratine Gemstones before she will divulge the Cup's location

  • [15-18] The faded portrait of the Unseen Queen now hangs in the corridor just outside your quarters. The crew still don't quite understand your ambitions, and resent the portrait for both suspicious and superstitious reasons.\n\n"What do you have to tell me?" asks the Queen sharply as you approach. You suspect she misses her moonlit court.
  • [19-21] The faded portrait of the Unseen Queen still hangs in the corridor just outside your quarters. \n\nShe is now depicted holding a stone goblet in one elegant hand. Her face, as ever, is scratched beyond recognition.

  • [22] "Are you ready to experience the last moments of my father?" asks the Unseen Queen. \n\nYour chosen vessel nods solemnly, approaching the Cup. Tendrils of light dance across their brow.
  • [23] As the poisoned words take effect, the souls within the Cup whirl faster. A pillar of lightning roars from the Cup and cuts the sky in two.\n\nToo late, the Storm That Speaks takes notice of you. Too late, the voices on the wind start to shriek.\n\nThe Queen takes a step forward (now fully escaped from her frame). "You erased me from time, father. But not thoroughly enough. A vestige remained. A painting."
  • [24] The Storm falls ominously quiet. <br><br> "I promised that after you found the Cup you would have immortality," says the Unseen Queen. She is a giantess now, with quicksilver skin. "I didn't say how soon.<br><br> "First, of course, I will have to destroy the Blue Kingdom and usurp the throne of the Sapphir'd King. When I have done so, your entire species will be immortal. That is my promise."
  • [25] The Unseen Queen is ascending to the sky and donning the flayed ghost of her father's torment. A crown of lightning has begun to dance across her brow; a robe of roiling clouds is wrapping her in an embrace. With each passing second, she strengthens her claim on existence. Soon, Albion will have a moon again."
  • [30] The Queen stares down at you in horror. The moon vanishes from the sky, and you find yourself back beneath the gathering storm.\n\n"Why – why would you—" The Unseen Queen is fading. The very fact of her existence is still too fragile to cope with the Minute to Midnight's onslaught of weaponised time.\n\nAs she convulses, the Storm That Speaks swells, gathers strength. It seems it wasn't quite yet destroyed; and now it senses weakness in its would-be conqueror.

Every inch is stacked with glittering treasures and dusty relics. \n\n"There," says the Queen.\n\nIn pride of the place at the vault's centre is the Martyr-King's Cup. \n\nIt is not a mere cup, of course. It is a whirling, spitting, shimmering vortex, flashing with lightning and fire, as wide and deep as a well.\n\nHow can you possibly take this back to the engine?
  • [19] The moonlight fades, and you find yourself back in the vault. \n\nThe swirling pit at the vault's centre has vanished; and when you examine the portrait of the Unseen Queen, you realise she is now holding a stone cup in her hands. Her face is mostly scratched out still, but you think you can perceive a smile.\n\nBefore you can question her, a distant bell begins tolling rather urgently.

  • [2] The Journal is a fascinating but frustrating document, written in both terrible handwriting and a near-impenetrable code. Much of what you can painstakingly decipher is meaningless without context. Scattered phrases like 'chimeric moonlight', 'a Golden Day', and 'death in amber'. Most of all, that same alluring phrase again and again: 'The Martyr-King's Cup.' \n\nYou study it through the night. You feel on the verge of a tantalising realisation.
  • [3] With the journal finally cracked, you sit back, bleary-eyed. You realise that you've been working for almost two days without food or sleep.
