Your illicit cargo has been discovered. Three bulky Clay Men stand ready to enforce the inspector' will. They prepare to stamp your import form with indelible red ink and hand you over to the authorities. These days, those authorities increasingly consider smuggling akin to treason.

Go quietly
Perhaps the courts will be lenient on you.
|
|
Manacles and chains
The Clay Men escort you onto the Relay, while the Inspector signs the paperwork to have your engine impounded. You are taken to London to face the consequences of your actions. The crew will have to wait at the Relay until justice, or the closest thing to it that you can expect in an Albion court, has been served.
|
Game note: The higher your Notoriety, the more severe your punishment.

Spin a Web of Deceit
Smuggling? No, no! Valuable work on behalf of her Majesty! You even have the Permits to prove it.

A bluff, called
The Inspector looks over your paperwork and shakes their head. They give a quick blow on their whistle; the Clay Men take you roughly by the arms and escort you to the Relay for transportation to Albion, and subsequent judgement. The crew will have to wait at the Relay until justice, or the closest thing to it that you can expect, has been served.

Bound by red tape
You present your paperwork, and a confident, well-told explanation of exactly why you have so much contraband in your cargo. Though you sense the Inspector is not entirely convinced, they take you at your word. They and the Clay Men leave the engine, and the signalman indicates that you are free to go.

The benefit of the doubt
The Inspector scrutinises your paperwork with intense care. Though they can't say for certain that you are lying, it is clear that they suspect it. Reluctantly, they give you the all-clear, though not without intimating that you will be more closely watched in future.
| ||||
Fight your way out
If you have to fall, better it be on your own terms.

A failed escape
At your signal, the crew brandishes weapons and charges. The Clay Men move to protect the Inspector, and to fight back. They make swift work of any crew members that get close.
Outside, the hull shudders and groans, quickly ensnared by the Revenue's harpoons. The fight does not last long. It ends with you in manacles, on your way to judgement in an Albion court.

Successful event | ||||
A triumphant escape
At your signal, the crew brandishes weapons and charges. The Clay Men move to protect the Inspector and get them back to safety on the Relay. They land only a few hits in return.
With them off the engine, your driver goes full-steam ahead to break through the barricade. Nobody is killed, though your hull bears the scars of the escape, and word will undoubtedly spread to the other Relays about this slight against the Revenue Men.

A daring escape
At your signal, the crew brandishes weapons and charges. The Clay Men move to protect the Inspector, and fight back. Their heavy fists make sad work of the first crew member to attack, though the rest manage to push them onto the Relay.
With them off the engine, your driver goes full-steam ahead to break through the barricade. Unfortunately, the delay left the Revenue's engine plenty of time to plant heavy harpoons into your hull. You manage to break free, but limping, and leaving a trail of detritus in your wake.

Bribe the Pinch-Faced Inspector
These charts will help them snare more notorious prey.

More than their job's worth
The Pinch-Faced Inspector shakes their head. "Sorry. I really am." They blow their whistle and the Clay Men escort you onto the Relay. Your engine is impounded. You are taken to London to face the consequences of your actions. The crew will have to wait at the Relay until justice, or the closest thing to it that you can expect in an Albion court, has been served.
| ||||
Successful event | ||||
Eyes, averted
The Pinch-Faced Inspector considers your offer, and the uncovered contraband. "I think we can let this slide," they decide, holding out their hands for the chart. "This time, at least. Don't let this happen again."

A slap on the wrist
The Pinch-Faced Inspector glances at your confiscated cargo. Their expression suggests that they know more is hiding somewhere, but suddenly don't feel the need to look too carefully for it. "Sign here," they say, holding out a form to authorise the seizure. "And be more careful in future," they mutter, making sure the Clay Men don't hear.
| ||||
Bribe the Avuncular Inspector
Time to whip up a tale of improvisational genius to win her over.

Special is calculated as follows: (Notoriety*10)+40 * 1.67

More than their job's worth
The Avuncular Inspector sighs. "I'm sorry, but it's time to take your medicine." She blows her whistle and the Clay Men escort you onto the Relay. Your engine is impounded. You are taken to London to face the consequences of your actions. The crew will have to wait at the Relay until justice, or the closest thing to it that you can expect in an Albion court, has been served.

Successful event | ||||
Eyes, averted
You spin stories of adventure in the High Wilderness and against her better judgement, the Avuncular Inspector is fascinated. By the time you've finished, it would be simply awkward to call for a set of manacles.
"I see what you're doing," she warns, wagging a finger. "Go on. We'll look the other way this time. But don't try it again/"

The Taciturn Inspector is easily impressed by your connections, and more importantly, fearful of what they might do to his young career. "I think we can let this slide," he decides, awkwardly crossing out something on his form. "You'll let them know, right?"
