The Tacketies[]
The Tacketies' Retreat[]
New Winchester reels from recent events. The more free-spirited citizens are keeping a low profile, while Company House – head office of the Windward Company – bristles with London flags. The Colonial Assembly, the closest thing the Tacketies have to leadership, has fled the port.

The Tacketies are struggling. The Windward Company – whose dreadnoughts, on loan from London, prowl the Reach – have them outgunned.
At Victory Hall, the Indurate Veteran regretfully argued that New Winchester was no longer a safe location for the Independents' nascent government. The Assembly voted in her favour, and its members evacuated the port in a chaotic exodus. If you have business with them, you'll need to travel to their new headquarters at Lustrum. |
Game note: This change in the balance of power will affect encounters, discoveries, bargains and prospects in the Reach. For example, the Tacketies' retreat means fewer independent miners to compete with, and so more hour-laden sky-rocks for you to claim.

The Tacketies' Return[]
Another upheaval has shaken New Winchester! The Tacketies, having fought their way back from near-defeat at the hands of the Windward Company, have returned. Hobnail boots tread the streets again, and talk of independence is heard once more in the tea- and gin-houses. Their Colonial Assembly has returned to Victory Hall, repaired the shattered windows, and resumed arguing exactly where they left off.

Stalemate
As the Tacketies approached New Winchester, the Windward Company made a last-minute attempt to destroy Victory Hall. But a band of Tackety sympathisers occupied and defended the hall until the relief forces could secure it. Now both sides of the conflict must share the port again, and the balance of power in the Reach has returned to its traditional state of simmering stalemate.

Game note: This change in the balance of power will affect encounters, discoveries, bargains and prospects in the Reach. For example, the renewed conflict means wrecks are more common, and unmined sky-rocks less so.

The Stovepipes[]
The Company's Retreat[]
New Winchester is in uproar. Crowds of boisterous Tacketies stamp through the streets in their hobnail boots. In Kisigar Gardens, they are burning piles of top hats. The Windward Company, whose fortunes have suffered recently, has abandoned the port.

They must have been preparing the evacuation for some time; Company House was emptied almost overnight. The Tacketies have the upper hand in the Reach, now, and the Company has withdrawn much of its strength to fortify its holdings at Port Prosper. If you want to deal with the Stovepipes, you'll need to seek them there.

Game note: This change in the balance of power will affect encounters, discoveries, bargains and prospects in the Reach. For example, the Tacketies' redoubled spirit means you will encounter more homesteads while exploring.

The Company's Return[]
Things have changed in New Winchester. The Windward Company have made recent gains against the Tacketies; enough to re-establish their presence in the town. They have reoccupied Company House, given it a fresh coat of paint, and hoisted a defiant London flag.

The Colonial Assembly are even now locked in accusatory debate in Victory Hall. There is little they can do, though. London has sent fresh dreadnoughts to reinforce the Company's claim, and the balance of power in the Reach has returned to its traditional state of simmering stalemate.
