Your skeleton crew are unable to keep the engine in a necessary state of repair. This morning, a leak filled an aft corridor with grey, noxious fumes. Served by Shades(Fumes)

The fumes are thicker than you realised. As you struggle to locate the leak, they overwhelm you. You wake a day later. The crew dragged you out and sealed the corridor. They have had to manage without you for the intervening period, and it has not been easy.

Fortunately, the broken pipes are accessible. You apply a quick, temporary patch with tar, then allow the air to clear before affecting a more permanent repair.

The affected pipes are tucked away and inaccessible. As you hunt for the fracture, the fumes grow ever thicker. Your cough is uncontrollable now. Should you press on, or retreat?

Can you manage it in time? Your remaining crew stand ready to effect a rescue.
You begin the repair, but the fumes overcome you before it is complete. You awake hours later, a persistent rattle in your lungs. Your crew managed to drag you out and finish the repair, but one of them has been affected by the fumes even more severely than you.

The corridor will have to be sealed off. It will be an inconvenience, and a blow to morale.
You hurry sensibly out before the fumes overcome you. You order the whole corridor sealed off, necessitating a longer journey from the engine room to the bridge.

It will be dangerous. They will have to endure the fumes while hunting for the fracture.

The leak is located, patched with tar, then fixed. But their time in the fumes has left the repair crew with torn, meaty coughs. Over the next few days, the symptoms worsen.
