Etymology[]

Medea is a tragic figure from Greek myth and the central figure of Eurypides' tragedy of the same name. Daughter of the King of Colchis and a niece of the infamous Circe, Medea is a powerful sorcerer who is smitten when the Greek hero Jason arrives with his Argonauts. She aids in him in retrieving it, escaping with the Argonauts back to Greece and becoming Jason's wife. However, Jason's pride and arrogance eventually destroy their relationship in brutal fashion, resulting in several deaths (including of her own children), and Medea curses him before fleeing with the backing of the gods.

Overview[]

The Medea is a locomotive built to withstand the rigours of Eleutheria's eternal night and it shows; it is built for combat exclusively and has the ability to house both more armor and a deadlier arsenal than any other locomotive available to the player, possessing three Plating slots and Two Large Weapon slots. To give some perspective, if outfitted for maximum Hull, then with 2x Adamant-Reinforced Windshield, 1x Interior Support Pillars and 3x Rose & Adamant Plating (which is somethong no other locomotive can do) then the Medea will have a total Hull value of 238, making it extraordinarily durable and allowing it to withstand damage that would vaporise lesser locomotives. Since using your locomotive's jets to dodge incoming fire generates Heat, which restricts weapon usage, the Medea can withstand incoming fire and focus fully on retaliating with due interest. The Medea's weaponry is no pushover either, as with two Large Weapon slots, you mount The Wrath of Heaven in one slot to fire on a target from afar and mount a Cotterell & Hathersage 'Golgonooza' in the other slot to use when getting closer (as the Wrath of Heaven causes self-damage if it detonates too close), enabling you to inflict extremely high damage before you Heat rises too high.

If you need to travel through a region of the High Wilderness that is crawling with highly dangerous enemies or you absolutely, positively, definitely want to slay every single Sky-Beast that even looks at you funny, the Medea, with its unparalelled firepower and armor, will deliver on that promise. It can withstand the damage as well as dish it out, with due interest. If the Agravain-Class Juggernaught excels at shooting first and asking questions later, the Medea does not even need to ask any questions; its weapons and armor speak for themselves.

Just one slight fly in the ointment, though, is that you pay for this immense firepower and resilience with a severely restricted Cargo Hold and Crew Quarters, at just 10 Hold and 8 Quarters, which is around on par with the Parsival-Class Courser. This means that your Hold space is precious and this restricts how much Fuel, Supplies and other Cargo you can carry. Same thing with Crew; your limited Quarters means that every crewmember is valuable, as having only 8 Crew at minimum means that you cannot afford that many casualties before problems arise due to low crew. This shows quite neatly that the Medea is built to be able to fight and kill things, not neccesarily carry and sustain them more than needed. For that purpose, use another locomotive.
