Actions Requirements Effects Notes
The Chiropterous Hoarder seems uneasy
It rests a hand on its belly, working one-handed as it prepares the necessary ingredients.
Self-preparation
The Chiropterous Hoarder salts itself, baths itself in a decoction black as lacquer. The mixture tints its fur with bi-chromatic shadows: reds and indigo, as though of the meat and vein of a heart. As you watch, the Hoarder seems to first shrivel and then swell outwards, the consistency of its skin altering with every step. The moisture leeches from its hide, bleeds black in dripping rivulets from its fur. Shivering, the Chiropterous Hoarder hunches into its wings and begins staggering forward, away to the end of its story.
Bid your officer a temporary farewell
The Chiropterous Hoarder has one final thing it must do: enter a small casket within the smokehouse.
Nothing to do but wait
Though it seems too large to fit, the Chiropterous Hoarder enters the lightless box without effort, improbably folding itself into the container.

Hours pass. You leave, return, trade vigil with your crew members. Yet still, there is no sign of the Chiropterous Hoarder. But then, three days later, a chorus of noises erupt: cries, that could almost be mistaken for the squalling of newborns. The Chiropterous Hoarder unfurls from the box and for a second, it almost looks infested, its pelt riddled with small and curious eyes. Then, the moment passes and you two are alone again.

"I was so close, but they would not leave me alone. They would not cease screaming. They insisted on being born." Rage sharpens its voice. Quickly as it comes, the fury moulders, rotting to rueful wonder. "But who knows? They could be useful. There is always time to try again in several decades."

Game note: The Chiropterous Hoarder's journey is complete.

Finally, it is time
The Chiropterous Hoarder collects the final ingredients in a hurry.
There is a sequence to such things
The Chiropterous Hoarder salts itself, bathes in a decoction black as lacquer. The mixture tints its fur with bi-chromatic shadows: reds and indigo, as though of the meat and vein of a heart. "It reminds me of being young, before the other Curators cast me out. The High Wilderness felt just like this, as perfect as this."
Bid your officer a temporary farewell
Now appropriately brined, the Chiropterous Hoarder makes to enter a small casket within the smokehouse.
Now, to wait
Though at first it seems too large to fit, the Chiropterous Hoarder enters the lightless box without effort, improbably folded into the container. Silence keeps you company while you wait for your officer to re-emerge.

Eventually, the Chiropterous Hoarder emerges or, at least, something that resembles the officer. Gone is the exuberance, the frenetic speech, the curiosity. Here instead is something immutable, immortal. At first glance, the Chiropterous Hoarder looks unchanged but soon it becomes clear that its eyes have become amber, its fur filaments of bronze.

"It was meant to be more. I had expected more. But nothing lasts, does it? And what does is flawed." It regards its claws, silent. "Still, there is time. This life, it is nothing but time to spend and I will spend it on your locomotive. I will see what I can buy with this time I have been given."

Game note: The Chiropterous Hoarder's journey is complete.
