To a starry sky
This captain has tried to master the language of the heavens. He read its sigils on starry tombs, he claims, where the waste-winds groaned. The pages are crowded with his attempts to reproduce them. They want you to speak them. You taste fire on your tongue, and cough out smoke that suddenly fills your lungs.

The long-forgotten road
The logs detail the engine's travels through long-dead, frozen skies. Each day's account is more detailed than the last, until they collapse into an endless paragraph of minuscule observations, obsessive specificity, and incoherence.

Search for something you can trade
Does anything of value remain?

Cold as the grave
The glass has been removed from the windows on the bridge. The crew wore goggles, several layers of clothes, and thick gloves to allow them to operate the locomotive despite the gusting cold.
You find the glass – stained with vibrant colours to ward against the maddening starlight – wrapped in tarpaulin at the back of the hold. The crew must have removed it willingly.

An unfortunate tutelage
You hear sounds from the hold. Inside it is a cage, and within the cage, a coiled, phosphorescent invertebrate. It has been well-fed. Perhaps it was meant for the pot when supplies ran out. Perhaps the captain took it as a pet. Or perhaps he was fascinated by the hypnotic knotting of its motory tentacles.

Scavenge for parts
The Explorer is beyond repair, as are its crew. But perhaps something might be salvageable.
Game note: Gain Hull and Terror. Your Mirrors skill will affect how much Hull you repair. |
A grim business
The crew work hastily; there are mistakes. Fortunately, none of the wounds are serious. Trembling, bruised and quiet, they return, bearing plates of wood and metal. They'll keep you in the sky a little longer.
