The Aeginae: Leviathans that dwell in the belly of the heavens. Usually, they are only glimpsed as sliding shapes – grand as mountain-ranges – in the fogs below. It is said that the suns have an ancient pact with them. That they are watchful. That they eat time.
The Aeginae is a Sunless Skies Story Event. Although also described as a species of Sky-Beast, they cannot be directly encountered or battled as with other Sky-Beasts.
Story description[]

An Aeginae
A bank of mists stretches just below you, flat and colourless as a twilit moor. Your navigator lets out a sudden cry, frantically pointing at something through your starboard windows.
Something immense approaches, its vast bulk rising from the mists. The great hump of its back looms over you like a hillside. It is studded with lidless, yellow eyes.
This is one of the Aeginae. The star-dragons. The behemoth-mercenaries that the suns contract to enforce their laws. Before it, you are only a fleck.

By the skin of your teeth
The leviathan draws closer and vaster. It is a cliff, bearing down on you. It eclipses all the sky.
At the last moment, your engineers restart the engines, and your driver drags your initially-sluggish vessel out of the beast's way. It is barely enough, but the Aeginae's wake casts the sky into a tumult. You are flung like a leaf on the wind, your locomotive spinning over and over. There are casualties. As you right your vessel, the uncaring behemoth sinks back into the mists.

A narrow escape
Your crew huddle in the dark as the beast draws ever closer, ever more immense. It fills your windows, so close you can distinguish the individual plates of its scales, pitted with the impacts of stellar debris.
Its slides past, mile after mile of it. You are a grain of sand. A mote of dust. A mite. Then it has passed you, and the sky is revealed again. The behemoth sinks back into the mists, returning to its lair in the deeps of the sky.

Sacrifice Unseasoned Hours to distract it
It is said that they eat time.

A rare sighting
You topple two barrels out of an exterior hatch and bellow the order to make full steam away from them. The behemoth's course shifts, fractionally.
A maw opens, the size of an oceanic abyss. Its teeth are like suspended mountain-peaks. The barrels pass between them, tiny as krill. The crew quail as you steam away, having born witness to a prince of heaven.
