Story description[]
The Beast approaches.
You and your sworn knights accidentally disturbed it from its slumber beneath the lake. As it awoke, it scented its favourite food. The blood of knights.
Now it advances in a terrible fury. A shuffling aggregation of animal-shapes. Lion-jaws, leopard-claws, a serpentine tail. The wings of a bat.

| An impossible gambit
The Beast screeches. The trees shudder.
You rise to meet it, your black-bladed sword at the ready, but your knights drag you back. "It's impossible!" they shout. "What are you doing? How could you—" Suddenly, you find yourself back aboard the locomotive, your Minute to Midnight brandished in one hand. Half your crew are piled on top of you. "—be so stupid?" demands an engineer. Apparently, in defiance of both gravity and common sense, you opened a hatch and tried to tightrope-walk down the chain toward the encroaching monster. It is fortunate that your crew restrained you.

| A meeting by moonlight
The Beast screeches. The trees shudder.
You rise to meet it, sword at the ready. Your knights try to drag you back, but you shrug them away. The Beast is a bloated ancient thing, fatted upon the blood of thousands. Huge, powerful, arrogant. It thrashes in fury as you dance around it. It screeches more in bewilderment than pain when you drive your sword deep into its bilious heart. When you recover your senses you are not beside a lake, but dangling by one hand from the sky-chain. Your sword is in your other hand. The monster's dripping corpse is entangled in the chain below.
