Actions Requirements Effects Notes
Sit upon the throne
It is bruisingly uncomfortable. Unrelenting stone, roughly hewn. But proving you are worthy for the Cup was never going to be easy.

The Throne's first curse
As you sit in the throne, you feel a cold numbness spread through your limbs. When you try to move them, it is as though they are made of the same lumpen stone as the chair beneath.
Turn and leave the castle
The knights assure you that you can return whenever you're ready.

Steel yourself for the ordeal ahead
Whatever is about to happen, it isn't going to be good.
Failed event
Rising panic
Panic overwhelms you. You come, abruptly, to your senses.

You are not seated upon a basalt throne but on an ordinary wooden chair, tied up with ordinary (but skilfully-knotted) rope. The men seated around you are not smiling knights, but rough-looking fellows wearing scars and scowls.

The man in front of you, who you'd taken as the commander, has one ear, one eyebrow, and eyes like a concussed shark. He grins.

"Sit tight," says the One-eared Ringleader. "A few more minutes and you'll prove yourself worthy of the, uh—" He takes out a piece of paper and frowns at it. "Mart-Ire King's Cup."
Successful event
Steel mind, steel heart
You breathe deeply, and empty your mind of worry. The commander-knight nods approvingly. "Very good. Deep breaths. Stay calm. The Blindness Throne is known to play tricks on the mind – just make sure you never forget that you are a knight."
Ward them away with prayer
You will pray to the Almighty, the ruler of this realm: the King of Hours.
Radiant words
You recite the words of the King's Prayer, in the King's Language, and immediately feel a cleansing fire wash through your mind. The demon howls and snatches back his scalded hand. A golden light floods the void and banishes them, squealing, to whatever unpleasant realm they spawned from. You whisper a thanks to the King of Hours. May He rule eternal.
Endure the demon's invasion of your mind as best you can
You can feel yourself fraying at the seams.

"We'll take this," says the demon eagerly, plucking from your skull the memory of your mother's last words. "And this, and this... In fact, we'll take it all. Starting with your eyes."

He extends his talons and plucks your eyes delicately from your skull, popping them into his mouth like grapes. You shriek—

And wake up blindfolded in a gutter behind the circus's main tent. When you rip the blindfold away, you are relieved to find your eyesight undiminished, your eyes whole and intact. You are, however, significantly lighter in the pocket.

You had the most terrible dream. But the memories are already fading.

Successful event
A worthy knight
"We'll take this," says the demon eagerly, plucking from your skull the memory of your mother's last words. "And this." Gone, too, the name of your homeland. "And this, and this... In fact, I think we'll take it all. Starting with your eyes."

He extends a talon. You grit your teeth and remind yourself that the demons will have no power over you, as long as you are worthy of the Cup.

The talon wavers, halts, and withdraws before it reaches your eye. "It seems this one is worthy," says the surprised demon, fading slowly from view.
Try to stand up
The binding-curse of the Blindness Throne is not easily overcome. Your limbs are lead.

Your struggles are useless. The blazing poker descends, pressing over your eyes, lashing your skull with a conflagration of agony. You shriek—

Successful event
Freedom
You grind your teeth, you scowl and snarl, your nose starts to bleed. You feel the invisible bonds around your arms and legs snap, one by one, and fall away. Your iron will has triumphed over foul sorcery. The cursed throne has released its grip on you.
A sudden resolve fills you
This Throne cannot hold you any longer.

Slaughter them all
Demons, and those in league with demons, deserve no mercy.
Snicker-snack
The Minute to Midnight slices through the air and severs a demon's head from its neck in a single stroke. The other demons crowd around, striking you with sticks and knives and fists, but your sword whips back and forth with snake-like speed. Demon after demon falls dead at your feet, until you are drenched in their odious blood. Finally, the Castle of the Seraphim stands silent and empty. You mount your horse and ride on your way, having successfully proven your worth on the Blindness Throne.

A little detail is niggling at you
That knight at the far end of the table – is he smoking a cigar? That seems wrong, somehow.
Failed event

Special is calculated as follows: 65 - (Proving your Worth: The Blindness Throne*6) + (Blindness Throne: Mirror Challenge * 10) * 1.67

Game note: The more often you attempt this challenge, the more difficult it will become.

Your mind must be playing tricks
You're not even sure what a 'cigar' is, nor how one would go about smoking it.
Successful event
The scales fall from your eyes
You come, abruptly, unpleasantly, to your senses.

You are not seated upon a basalt throne. You are seated on an ordinary wooden chair, tied up with ordinary (but skilfully-knotted) rope. The men seated around you are not smiling knights, but rough-looking fellows wearing scars and scowls.

Leave the castle peacefully
When you stood, the demon-knights began to flee in terror. There is no reason to kill them.
Exodus
Fearful demons pour through the windows and out the doors. Some fly away like bats, some burrow like worms, some swing through the trees like apes – but most importantly, they vanish in droves, leaving the Castle of the Seraphim silent and empty. You mount your horse and ride on your way, having successfully proven your worth on the Blindness Throne.
