The Forum is a Sunless Skies Story Event.
Story description[]
The Forum greets you with a cacophony of competing voices and the acrid stench of gunpowder. This was once the dreadnought's vast storage-room, and now munitions crates have been stacked and shoved together to create a semi-circle of stages. Hopefully no one lights a cigarette. The stages are occupied by Supplicants, voices raised.

Deliver a lecture on the place-behind-glass
The results of your mirror-research are sure to attract an audience.
Founder's Respect: Supplicant(founder_description)
|
|
Your findings
You begin your lecture by warning your audience that you've been tampering in things which humanity was not meant to know, and that therefore the results still need to be reliably replicated.
Cribbing from your copious notes, you deliver a lecture on the intricacies and vagaries of the Is-Not. The correct way to climb inside a mirror; the means by which a traveller can dream a palace; speculations on why the barrier between Is and Is-Not has become so much less permeable in recent years. Your audience swells, many of them furiously taking notes. When your talk is complete, you find yourself mobbed with questions.

Deliver a lecture on the Extinguishments
Out in the furious emptiness, there are places that have never known light or heat.
Founder's Respect: Supplicant(founder_description)
|
|
The Extinguishments
Your approach is academic, your tone matter-of-fact, but the Aspirants listen as though to a ghost story. There are places of darkness in Eleutheria, you tell them, a darkness so total it devours even the memory of light. Your audience whispers and swells.
What does such emptiness conceal? Unlit trains that plunged into the darkness hoping to commit crimes beyond the sight of any god. Disgraced servitors, hiding for millennia from otherwise-omniscient masters. At the end of your lecture, your audience are too subdued to ask questions. The spectres of an Extinguishment seems to hang in the air above you, fascinating and repellent in equal measure.

Tell a story from your travels
It's not precisely a lecture, but as a Supplicant, you can speak about whatever you wish. The right audience will find you.
|
|
A decent story
You climb onto an unoccupied stack of bomb-crates and launch into a reliable favourite from your stable of anecdotes. You attract a small but excitable audience, who gasp and cheer at all the appropriate moments. When you reach the conclusion, they applaud more than politeness necessitates.

Tell a story from your travels
You're wearing the wrong mask, but surely they won't mind if you deliver an impromptu talk?
|
|
An interrupted story
You climb onto an unoccupied stack of bomb-crates and launch into a reliable favourite from your stable of anecdotes, but are quickly overwhelmed by jeers from the audience.
"You've got the wrong face on, Aspirant!" shouts one of the bulldog-masked Recalcitrants. The crowd surges forward and topples you from your stage, passing you like a parcel to the exit.
|
|
Attend a lecture
You flit between Supplicants. One is tripping over his words, another reaching her conclusion. Finally, you find a speaker whose words are intriguing.

The roses' reproach
A ripple of discontent spreads through the audience as you take your place among their ranks. The light of your mask-lantern couldn't be more glaring. The surrounding Aspirants rotate to face you, a field of silver roses staring in expectant silence.
The Supplicant on stage pauses, his own lantern swinging as his fish-visage turns your way. "It's bad form to interrupt another's lecture," he says. "Get your own stage."

Leave the Forum
You push your way through crowds of flowers.

|
A retreat
The clamour of a thousand mingled speeches fades as you return to the hollow at the Berrenger's core.
