Failed event
A hold over the heart
It enters the oubliette. Its limbs press upon the walls, quaking the stone like an erratic heartbeat. Its shadow seals away the last of the light.

There is only you, your dreams and the cold, earthy breath on your face. Your hands fumble for the key – and then resist. You cradle the box in your arms and step back from the shadow.

And then, as if it never were, it is gone. The skull of the Unworthy Scribe appears over the edge of the oubliette. "I'm afraid you've failed. And your crew— Well, best not look for them."
Successful event
Like sand in the hourglass, spent
It enters the oubliette. Its limbs press upon the walls, quaking the stone like an erratic heartbeat. Its shadow seals away the last of the light.

There is only you, your dreams and the cold, earthy breath on your face. You turn the key.

The box opens, and your dream is devoured, a single morsel snapped up by iron teeth. The box clatters to the ground, and the shadow slips away.

The Unworthy Scribe's skull appears over the oubliette's rim. "You've passed," he tells you.
Imagine something better
Your dreams are not as interesting as all that. You have something better to lose.
Something offered
It enters the oubliette. Its limbs press upon the walls, quaking the stone like an erratic heartbeat. Its shadow seals away the last of the light.

There is only you, this bright, yearning memory, and the cold, earthy breath on your face. yearning memory.

There is a tongue in your ear. It is insistent, focused upon its prize. It is neither concerned for your well-being nor wishing you harm. The memory fades like a portrait bleached by the sun. It – and the visitor – are gone.

Shortly afterwards the Unworthy Scribe comes to help you out of the hole. You have achieved the Testament of Salt.
Give up your dreams gladly
They hold no comfort for you any more.
Somethings better left locked
Something is entering the oubliette. You can feel its limbs upon the walls; quaking the stone like an erratic heartbeat. Their shadow steals away the last of the light.

There is only you, now, and your dreams. Cold, earthy breath by your face. You turn the key in the box.

There is a shriek, high and fearful. The sound of heavy limbs retreating, backwards. A shadow slithers against the light, and is gone.

The face of the Underappreciated Scribe appears. "That was, ah, unexpected. But you've passed!" He helps you out to receive your Testament and reunite with your crew.
